Khalil Mack ‘running out of time’ to win a Super Bowl, says the Bears ‘gotta win now’

content_img

Last year’s had arguably the best defense in the .

Spurred by bid of £15m for the Scotland international. That hasn’t deterred the Gunners’ desire to sign Tierney, with The Mirrorclaiming a new offer of £22m will be presented to Celtic within the next few days.Napoli’s reported interest in the 22-year-old has the arrival of star edge rusher , the Bears ranked third in the league in yards allowed, first in points allowed, and first in defensive efficiency, per Football Oto Soldado believes there are no limits to what Harry Kane can achieve in the sport.Kane is already one of the most prolific strikers for England and in the Premier League. But is easy to forget he still has so much of his career in front of him, and utsiders’ defensive DVOA. The Bears racked up 36 takeaways, five more than any other team in the league. They allowed a touchdown or field goal on only 28.6 percent of opponent drives, besting the for the best rate in the NFL. They allowed only 278 total first downs, 5.3 net yards per pass attempt, 80.0 rush yards per game, and 4.8 yards per play — and all of those figures also led the league.

And yet, when the Bears got to the playoffs, they did not make it past the first round, having lost on a against the .

The Bears are expected to be among the inner-circle NFC contenders once again this season, and Mack, the team’s best player, knows that they .

“You’re running out of time, man. All these older dudes let us know at an early point in my career, man, we ain’t got no time to waste,” Mack said, per the Chicago Sun-Times. He continued, noting, “You’ve gotta win. Gotta win now.”

The Bears are certainly in their prime contention window, what with this coming season being the third year of quarterback rookie contract. Those are the years when you are able to build the deepest, best team possible, and do things like trade multiple first-round picks for a star edge rusher and hand him what was, at the time, the largest contract ever for a defensive player. Once the Bears get out of Trubisky’s rookie deal, they will either have to pay him and trim salary elsewhere, or find another quarterback on a rookie-scale deal. Both are easier said than done.

That means this Bears squad only has a slight window available to make its mark and hoist a trophychester City are discussing the potential transfer of Joao Cancelo with Juventus. The Premier League champions want to add competition at right back, with Kyle Walker the only senior player in that position right now.City are talking with Italian cham. If they follow their best player’s lead, they’ll be going all out during that window.

2019 NFL Draft: Ranking position groups for all 32 teams reveals their biggest needs

content_img

Just as we did the past few years, the Eye on Football staff spent the last week or so compiling position group rankings for all 32 teams in the league in an attempt to identify pre-draft needs.

Unlike last year, though, there was no definitive guideline given over whether the rankings should be strictly for the upcoming season or for the future as well. So, each member of the staff (myself, John Breech, Will Brinson, Ryan Wilson, Sean Wagner-McGough) brought their own balance of those timelines to the table, and the rankings ended up reflecting that. As a result, some of the needs below are immediate, and some of them lean more toward the future. That’s OK, though, because that’s how teams actually draft.

A helpful guide: any position group that had an average ranking worse than 16.0 (on a scale of 1 to 32) was considered a “need,” while any that ranked worse than 23.0 (bottom-third of the league) was considered a “pressing need.” Check them all out below.

27.6 13.0 27.0 28.2 8.2 16.0 19.8 20.0

QB, WR/TE, OL, INT DL, LB, DB QB, WR/TE, OL

The Cardinals’ low ranking at quarterback might be why there is so much smoke around the idea that they’ll draft Kyler Murray with the No. 1 overall selection despite the fact that they traded up into the top-10 to select  just last year. Rosen was put in about as bad a situation as possible during his rookie season and he has enough talent to suggest there is still plenty of hope for him as a viable long-term starter, but truly special players overcome even the worst of circumstances, and since Rosen couldn’t, it apparently has the  thinking about a rather drastic move. Part of his poor situation was the dreadful pass-catching group he had to work with, and the Cardinals very badly need to find some long-term help for  on the perimeter. (Despite appearances,  cannot literally play forever.) They also need to make upgrades along the offensive line, or else Rosen (or Murray) will be running for his life for quite a bit more time. Arizona could also use some help on the second level of its defense, as there are still big holes in the defensive backfield even after the team added  in last year’s draft and  earlier in free agency.

8.620.65.2 14.4 21.223.216.527.3

RB, EDGE, INT DL, LB, DB DB

After cutting ties with the aforementioned Robert Alford earlier this offseason and letting slot corner  leave in free agency as well, our panel sees defensive back as the most obvious and pressing need for the . The team lost both its safeties for portions of last season and saw the defensive essentially fall apart, especially in conjunction with absences from multiple linebackers. Atlanta could at the very least use depth at both spots. And despite stacking athletes along the defensive front over the years, the Falcons still need some help there as well — whether they get  signed long-term or not. And while , , , and the offensive line rank highly, the running backs do not score so well, with  leaving,  suffering injuries during each of the past two seasons, and  coming off a wildly inefficient rookie year. Our mock drafts have them largely zeroing in on the defensive line, for what it’s worth, with Ed Oliver a popular trade-up target.

26.017.832.07.423.65.4 15.3 5.4

QB, RB, WR/TE, EDGE QB, WR/TE, EDGE

The Ravens drafted  just last year, so we can probably forget about them taking another QB for a while as they attempt to re-orient the offense around him. They badly need to get him some weapons here, though, as Baltimore’s wide receiver and tight end group is the only position group in our entire rankings that is a consensus last-place pick. Wideout is by far the most popular pick in our mock drafts, with five of six experts pegging Baltimore to take a pass-catcher in Round 1. The  also need to fortify their edge-rusher group after seeing  and  both leave in free agency, and it wouldn’t surprise to see them add a pass rusher or two in the middle rounds.

25.824.629.427.427.6 25.625.012.5

QB, RB, WR/TE, OL, EDGE, INT DL, LB QB, RB, WR/TE, OL, EDGE, INT DL, LB

So the panel mostly sees the ‘ needs as “a better football team.”  was drafted last year and doesn’t look like he’s going anywhere. The Bills signed two receivers and a tight end (, , ) in free agency and made a couple upgrades along the offensive line as well, but they apparently did not move the needle much for us. The ageless but still aging backfield duo of  and  is nice for next year, but the team definitely needs an infusion of youth at that spot. And with  retiring and most of the team’s edge rushers looking more like rotational guys than foundational ones, Sean McDermott’s guys could use a boost there as well.

11.86.223.621.021.413.27.825.8

WR/TE, OL, EDGE, DB WR/TE, DB

The signing of center  means we’ve moved offensive line out of the “pressing needs” column for the first time since I’ve been doing this column, which is a nice change of pass. The  could still use some more dynamic weapons for , but D.J. Moore looks like a find and a healthy  is still incredibly dangerous. It’s just that Olsen rarely seems healthy anymore. Another perimeter target to pair with Wilson would be nice. And while  solidified one safety spot, they still need to get some defensive backfield help to go with  and last year’s pick, . Our mocks are split on the Panthers, but the edge is a popular fortification spot as the team looks to make up for the loss of .

18.414.814.212.64.05.03.82.3

QB N/A

No pressing needs for the , a team with an elite defense at all three levels and an average-ish offense led by a slightly below-average quarterback. The key here is probably upgrading the infrastructure around  in order to minimize the chance that he can undermine their season. Head coach Matt Nagy is obviously a big part of that, but there’s a reason the Bears made such a concerted effort to add offensive talent last offseason; the less Trubisky has to do on his own, the better.

21.612.419.029.018.819.822.511.5

QB, WR/TE, OL, EDGE, INT DL, LB OL

So we see the  as a team with a bunch of needs, but with most of them not being much more pressing than the others, with the exception of offensive line. Last offseason’s trade for  and drafting of  locks in two spots and  is pretty good at left guard, but the right side of the line could use some upgrades, for sure. After the Bengals cut ties with the much-maligned  they could use some help for  at the second level, and with  and  not getting any younger, the defensive line is becoming more of a need area as well. Our mocks are chock full of Jonah Williams picks, which makes a lot of sense, but two also have the Bengals landing Dwayne Haskins as an  replacement so Zac Taylor can have his own guy to build around. Either path would not surprise.

8.63.81.815.65.0 11.215.513.0

 N/AN/A

The , ladies and gentlemen! One of two teams on our entire list with no needs or pressing needs. My, how times have changed. The offensive line is the closest thing to a need area here, and after seeing  retire and  get shipped out in a trade the past two offseason, that makes a good deal of sense. If they can add some depth there and in the defensive backfield, this looks like one of the best teams in the league in 2019.

12.82.813.83.213.625.02.017.8

 INT DL, DB INT DL

The  resumed having their highly-ranked offensive line with the news earlier this offseason that  recovery from Guillain-Barre Syndrome was going well. They could perhaps use some depth there and maybe a long-term replacement for , but as long as Frederick, , and  are around, that’s not going to be a major area of need. The other side of the ball is a stickier issue. The interior of the defensive line took a hit with  suspension and retirement, and even with  likely moving inside after the acquisition of , the Cowboys still need more help in that area. Similarly, the signing of  does not solve the team’s safety issues. They need another starter next to  in order to fortify their strong group of corners.

28.414.0 22.623.63.419.623.56.8

QB, WR/TE, OL, LB QB, OL, LB

This will shock you, but we here at CBSSports.com do not think  is the solution to the ‘ ongoing quarterback issues. Drew Lock is a popular pick in our mock drafts, and while you can argue the merits of the selection itself, you can’t really argue the need. Similarly, the Broncos don’t have much in the pass-catching department beyond a back-from-injury  and , and even after adding , the offensive line looks only OK after seeing  leave. Luckily, the Broncos have dynamic edge rushers and defensive backs to win games on their lonesome, because they need some help both up the middle and at the second level — especially after letting go of .

17.026.616.415.217.422.021.329.3

QB, RB, WR/TE, EDGE, INT DL, LB, DBRB, DB

looked good as a rookie but Matt Patricia has shown precisely zero indication that he’s willing to use him as an every-down back, so we still see that as a need, even after the signing of C.J. Anderson. ( is basically a receiver.)  is an elite run defender but right now the  have essentially nobody who can rush the passer from the interior, which is a problem in the modern — especially when you don’t have anybody who can cover in the middle of the field. And considering we are not enthused with the secondary beyond  and , that still looks like a need as well. (There’s a reason the Lions had one of the NFL’s worst pass defenses toward the end of last season.) The Devins — White and Bush — Montez Sweat and Brian Burns are the most popular targets in our mocks, and all would help the team’s defense immensely.

6.419.811.27.610.66.222.514.5

RB, LB N/A

had an excellent season last year and probably just needs to be given the ball more often, but the  don’t have much in the way of quality depth beyond him at running back and so it would be good to add some more talent there — especially in the form of a third-down, pass-catching type of player. After spending seemingly a gazillion dollars to overhaul their pass rush and upgrade the defensive backfield even more, linebacker stands out as the one glaring need on this team’s defense. The Packers have two first-round picks thanks to last year’s trade-down with the , and because they don’t have any glaring needs, our picks are all over the map.

10.027.68.031.87.0 7.27.312.8

RB, OL RB, OL

Let’s just roll  in bubble wrap and pray for him.

3.216.813.89.0 18.225.86.819.3

RB, EDGE, INT DL, DBINT DL

The  found so many quality players in last year’s draft that they managed to shore up several of their weaknesses (linebacker, offensive line) in one shot. Perhaps they can do the same this year.  and  turned into nice rotation players along the defensive line but Indianapolis’ run defense up the middle was dreadful last year and they could still use more pressure players up front both in the interior and on the edge. The Marlon Mack/Nyheim Hines combination at running back is solid, if not spectacular, but should work just fine in conjunction with Luck and the offensive line. Many around the league thought the Colts would seek a major secondary upgrade this offseason, but they have instead been content to retain their own players. Our mocks are in almost uniform agreement on the defensive interior being an early-round target, with Dexter Lawrence and Jerry Tillery standing out as fits.

27.224.629.821.07.4 18.4 4.0 4.5

QB, RB, WR/TE, OL, INT DL QB, RB, WR/TE

The Jags have a lot of needs and almost no money with which to fill them, so the draft is going to have to be key. They broke the bank for  but still rank lowly in our quarterback rankings here, and should probably still be searching for a real long-term answer. The  pick already looks like it’s not working out as planned and they may need to go back to the well there. They have one of the least impressive pass-catching corps in the league and the offensive line, even after spending a bunch of money on it, still needs an overhaul. And they cut into their defensive talent to clear space for Foles. The Jags can really go anywhere with this year’s draft and it would make sense. It’s a top-heavy, thin roster with very few settled positions outside the second level of the defense.

1.416.41.69.824.210.620.817.0

RB, EDGE, LB, DB EDGE

The  cut  and traded , and are heading into the draft with  and  as their primary pressure players. That’s not a great situation to be in, especially when your secondary is just OK and not elite. They can definitely use some help along the edge, but that’s basically the roster’s one glaring weakness. Depth at linebacker and in the secondary could also be concerns, and if they want to upgrade on , well, why not make a dangerous offense even more so? The defensive front and back ends are where we have the Chiefs going in our mocks, with Zach Allen, DeAndre Baker, Rashan Gary, and Jerry Tillery being just a few potential matches.

4.68.6 4.615.01.2 21.6 13.04.3

INT DLN/A

The  retained  but they let  leave, so they don’t have a long-term answer in the middle of the defense between bookends  and . That’s really the only area of this team that could be considered close to a weakness, as the Chargers have one of the deepest rosters in football. Christian Wilkins, Dre’Mont Jones, and Jeffery Simmons are among the players being mocked to L.A.

14.0 8.6 4.6 4.0 15.64.6 27.5 7.5

LB LB

Like their L.A. brethren, the  have one of the deepest, best rosters in football.  might not be an elite QB, but he’s a pretty good one, and the Rams have an excellent offensive line, the best defensive player in the league, a stud running back (if he’s healthy), and deep and versatile groups at receivers and defensive back. They basically only have one linebacker (), though, and not much beyond  on the edge. They’re not necessarily in a great draft range for those spots, though, so they could elect for another interior defender or a guard to take the place of the departed , building on top of their strengths.

29.827.8 29.8 28.0 28.4 30.825.8 21.8

QB, RB, WR/TE, OL, EDGE, INT DL, LB, DB   QB, RB, WR/TE, OL, EDGE, INT DL, LB, DB

The  will almost certainly be the worst team in the league next season and will get to choose from Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert, and Jake Fromm. They could go pretty much anywhere with their picks this year, because this roster is terrible.

18.8 19.2 6.030.67.2 12.8 6.0 5.0

QB, RB, OL DB

The  basically look like a better-on-offense, slightly-worse-on-defense version of the , but with a much more obvious weakness (offensive line) that nevertheless is slightly less important to winning football games. Still, the line completely undermined Minnesota’s season last year and needs to be addressed. Cody Ford and the Williamses are popular mock targets. They could also use some help for  at running back, since he seemingly can’t stay healthy.

4.0 5.0 24.0 2.019.0 25.6 11.5 6.5

WR/TE, EDGE, INT DL WR/TE, INT DL

The defending champs are still in pretty good shape with elite quarterback play, one of the best running back combinations in the league, the best offensive line coach in NFL history, and a terrific secondary. It seems strange calling wide receiver/tight end a glaring need given that they just won a with half-strength Gronk, , and that’s it, but Gronk is gone now and they need a talent infusion there. They probably can’t get T.J. Hockenson, but Noah Fant or one of the tight ends in the second or third-round range would make a lot of sense. They scooped up  after figuring out they were almost definitely losing , and they don’t care about the edge as much as other teams anyway, but they have to find this year’s version of  and  to solidify the middle of the defense.

3.2 4.8 7.2 7.6 12.2 8.413.3 14.3

The  are the second team on our list to not have any needs or glaring needs. That makes sense given that they are about as all-in as a team can be right now as  winds down his career. A firmer succession plan than  (who re-signed, but on a one-year deal) might mitment. The Gunners captain has been linked with PSG and Barcelona this week. But Arteta says he’s had no indication from Aubameyang that he wants out.He said, “As far as I know, a week ago after a game at home we were discussing that he said he was sbe the most obvious need here, but that’s likely not a priority.

As a  fan, I think it would be pretty awesome if the  kept passing on quarterbacks and taking players at low-value positions like running back or a run-stopping interior defensive lineman. As the person writing this column for CBSSports.com, I feel I should note the Giants absolutely need to draft a quarterback and get  out of the lineup. But it’s not like the rest of the roster is much better. This team has needs basically everywhere after trading , , , and  over the past year-plus, and letting  walk. They have two first-round picks and could go pretty much anywhere with them, knowing Dave Gettleman. We mostly have the Giants looking at the defensive line and wide receiver.

The  tried to sign  to upgrade their edge-rushing group, but he ultimately decided to go back to Minnesota. We have them locked into  at No. 3 in the draft in most of our mocks, and that would be an excellent fit. Beyond that, giving  some help up front and on the perimeter would go a long way toward helping him fulfill his potential, and figuring out a way to get somebody who can stop the other team from completing passes all over the field would be an immense help to the defense.

Jon Gruden pared this roster down to its bare bones before trading for  and signing , , and , among others. Still, there are a ton of needs here. They start with quarterback, where  no longer looks like the answer he appeared to be a couple years ago. Kyler Murray? Dwayne Haskins? We’ll see. The  have three first-round picks and could definitely use an influx of talent on the defensive front (Rashan Gary? Quinnen Williams?) and in the backfield (Greedy Williams? Byron Murphy? DeAndre Baker?). Even after signing  and  to go along with , linebacker remains a need as well because Marshall and Whitehead are in their late-20s and Burfict probably got suspended while I was writing this sentence.

Did you see how the ‘ secondary completely fell apart last year? Yeah, that needs to be rectified. Byron Murphy and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson are popular mock picks for a good reason.

Anyone who watched the  last year knows they need help on the second level. The signings of  and  should help, but it’s not enough — especially over the middle. Devin Bush is our most commonly-mocked player here, but Byron Murphy, Greedy Williams, and DeAndre Baker pop up as well. Pittsburgh could also use some help for T.J. Watt on the edge, and another receiver to pair with  and  over the long-term. And there’s always the Roethlisberger succession plan to worry about.

San Francisco is basically just the definition of an average-ish team across the board right now, and our rankings reflect that. They have a chance to add elite talent with the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, where we have them getting Nick Bosa in every mock right now. That would spike their edge rush ranking and would allow for  to play along the interior more often, helping them there as well. The  were expected to be a major suitor for  in free agency but that never came to fruition, so safety is a spot to look for as well. And they could still use to give  some more weapons alongside . The Marquise Goodwin-Dante Pettis-Trent Taylor group isn’t scaring anybody.

7.2 19.2 17.2 16.0 13.0 13.0 4.3 12.5

Let’s just say these rankings might change a bit if they can’t lock down  by his April 15 deadline and end up having to move on for some reason. Still, the  rank surprisingly well for a team that has seen so many talented players leave for various reasons over the past several years. Their biggest area of need is probably still at the offensive skill positions, where they do still have , , , and . Thane is regularly touted as one of the best players in the Premier League and has been challenged by Pep Guardiola to become one of the best five players in the world.”Probably not too far,” De Bruyne declared on Sky Sports. “But who am I to decide that’s not a bad position to be in. Our mocks are heavy on safeties (Nasir Adderley, Juan Thornhill) and edge rushers (Clelin Ferrell).

So, just a few needs here for the Bucs. Bruce Arians thinks he can fix , and good luck with that. The Bucs do have  and  and O.J. Howard and  for him to throw to, but they have a porous offensive line and the worst running back group in the league. They don’t have much on the edge beyond JPP, and they could lose  between now and the draft. Their linebackers beyond  are uninspiring and their secondary was the NFL’s worst last year. There is so much smoke around Devin White to the Bucs at No. 5 that there almost has to be some fire, and that pick would make a ton of sense as they badly need a second-level playmaker who can work all over the field.

The  are in a very similar spot as the Bucs, which makes sense because they took quarterbacks at No. 1 and 2 back-to-back in 2015 and neither has worked out as well as the respective teams have hoped. Tennessee has a better offensive infrastructure with their offensive line and running game, but the passing game options beyond , , and a coming-back-from-injury  do not inspire fear in anyone. They signed  to beef up the edge rush unit for this season, but that’s not a long-term solution, and they could still use help up the middle at every level of the defense as well. Their first-round pick could go in basically any direction, with Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson’s conception of the team’s needs likely making the ultimate decision.

Washington is another one of those teams that seemingly needs everything. The unfortunate injury to  last year derailed any hope of this team being mildly competitive in the near future, and they’re counting on  under center this coming season. So, that position needs to be addressed.  is the running back next year, but beyond that? Who knows. A pass-catching group led by  scares no one. The edge group needs a talenup should be revamped as the “British Cup” and include teams from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The Scot, 56, said top teams should be able to opt out of the competition to help deal with fixture congestion. The comments come after Uefa presidet infusion. They lost second-level defensive talent in free agency after spending all the money in the world on . This is a bad team with a lot of needs, but who knows what Daniel Snyder will decide to do?

NFL Draft 2019: Titans get A.J. Brown at insane value at No. 51 after going defense in Round 1

content_img

The Titans drafted my No. 1 receiver in this class at No. 51 overall. That, my friends, would be called a steal.

Brown had two majorly productive seasons at Ole Miss and can do it all from any pre-snap alignment. His greatest strength is his running-back like yards after the catch skills at 6-foot-0 and 226 pounds. He does have 4.49 speed too, so he’s not a “quicker-than-fast” receiver prospect, and that’s important.

Watching Brown’s film, you see a fair amount of big plays down the field thanks to plus body control and impressive high-point ability. With Marcus Mariota playing on the fifth-year option, and with former first-round selection Corey Davis yet to really turn it on at the level, prioritizing receiver — to a certain degree — is very logical for the Titans.

Brown excelled as a “big slot” but after D.K. Metcalf got injured in 2018, he demonstrated the ability to win on the outside. No, he didn’t run a variety of routes r to play on the left-side.Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed the 21-year-old his debut in the 2-0 win against Perth Glory and he started the game on the left with Anthony Martial playing through the middle and Tahith Chong on the right.”For me that left poat Ole Miss, and in Tennessee that’s probably OK because of the run-pass option element to the Titans’ offense. Don’t be surprised if Brown becomes y about joining Manchester United.Fernandes is expected to sign for United in the next 24 hours. He was stopped by a reporter from Portuguese television station SIC on Tuesday, who asked him two dire told Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud he’ll get a game with them.Giroud, off contract in June, admits he wants to be playing regularly next season.Grimandi, who helped Arsenal sign Giroud from Montpellier, told Canal+: “Olivier will choose his destinact questions about his future. The first question wasa favorite target of Mariota by the midway point of the wideout’s rookie season.

Nick Foles rumors: Jaguars reportedly expect to sign former Eagles Super Bowl MVP in free agency

content_img

One of the most long-rumored pairings in the NFL is apparently going to come to fruition this offseason. is not long for Philadelphia as the have decided to let the former MVP hit free agency rather than use the franchise tag on him, and it appears he mis watching the progress of both Brazilian youngsters with keen interest. He told AS: “Vinicius and Rodrygo are players who are going through a stage of maturation and development. “They are very young players with different characteristics. Rodrygo iay finally be headed to Jacksonville, as was rumored for much of last offseason before the Eagles decided to bring Foles back as backup for one more year.

The now  once free agency opens, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The only Eagles quarterback to ever win a Super Bowl is bound for Jacksonville when NFL free agency opens March 13, according to NFL sources with knowledge of the situation.

A market for Nick Foles outside of Jacksonville has not developed, and though nothing is certain until it is official, the Jaguars absolutely expect to sign Foles, sources said. They have been working on the structure of a contract, . As McLane also reported, it might not place Foles among the league’s highest-paid QBs, since the Jags ap goalkeeper Brad Friedel can see Chelsea replacing Kepa Arrizabalaga at the end of the season.Blues boss Frank Lampard has dropped the Spanish keeper over poor form and Friedel believes he now faces the biggest challenge of his career. He said, “Keppear to be the only bidder.

Foles has done well filling in for Wentz over the past couple seasons, leading the Eagles to their first Super Bowl victory in 2017 and then bringing th and fitness of Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah.Garcia has claimed Egypt have had to alter their tactics from the Africa Cup of Nations as Mohamed Salah continues to feel the effects of his long season with Liverpool. The forward made 52 appearances in alem back to the playoffs after Wentz was injured again in 2018. The Jags have been sticking with as their starter for the past five seasons but it appears they may finally be willing to move on after Bortles’ latest sub-par season.

The Jacksonville defense is ready to win now so it makes a good deal of sense that the team wants to bring in a veteran starter rather than wait for a rookie to develop into the kind of player that can lead them deep into the playoffs. We already know Foles has the ability to do that. The questions with him are about his consistency, his ability to stay healthy, and his ability to thrive outside the ecosystem the Eagles created for him to succeed. It won’t be too long before we get some answers to those questions now.

NFL Week 1 Grades: Raiders get an ‘A’ for unusual win, Bengals a ‘D’ for Dalton

content_img

Signing a 27-year-old kicker — who’s never played in a regular season game — less than 24 hours before your regular opener isn’t something that usually works out for you, but it definitely worked out for the on Sunday.

New kicker , who spent time in six training camps over the past five seasons before finally getting a shot to play this week, was the star of the game for Oakland. The former Cal kicker went 4 for 4 on the day, hitting field goals from 20, 52, 52 and 43 yards in the win.

It’s fitting that the Raiders went with a kicker who has such an unusual backstory because the Raiders won in an unusual way. Going into the season, the biggest question in Oakland had to do with whether or not their defense would actually be able to stop anyone.

We know the Raiders can win a shootout, but can they punch you in the mouth and win with defense?

If Sunday’s 26-16 win over the is any indication, then the answer is yes.

The Raiders defense didn’t completely shut down the Titans, but they did come up with big plays in key situations. While clinging to a 13-10 lead to start the second half, it wouldn’t have been a shock to see the Raiders give up a few big drives, which would have turned the game into a shootout, but that’s not what happened.

On six offensive possessions in the second half, the Titans only got inside the red zone one time, and even then, the Raider still came up big. The biggest play of the game might have been a third-and-2 play the Titans ran from Oakland’s 7-yard line. On the play, got stuffed for a one-yard loss by rookie .

At this time last year, Morrow, who was an undrafted free agent, was playing football for D-III Greenville University. The linebacker’s story is almost as wild as Tavecchio’s.

After the Murray play, the Titans were forced to kick a field goal, which made the score 16-13 Oakland. If the Titans had scored a touchdown, they would’ve been leading 17-16 late in the third quarter.

The fact that the Raidleagues in the Nations League.Silva and Portugal are preparing for a semi final with Switzerland. The winner will face the team that emerges from the Netherlands vs. England semi final. And Bernardo would love to play England in the final.”Of course haers are able to lean on their defense could be mean big things for the 2017 season because this was a unit the team couldn’t really trust last year (the Raiders finished 26th overall in total defense in 2016). It’s still way early, but if the Raiders defense can just rank in the top 20 this year, that could be exactly what they need to make a run at the AFC West title.

Raiders 26-16 over Titans

Although we just spent five paragraphs talking about the Raiders’ defense, let’s not forget about and the Raiders offense.  Carr was consistent throughout the game (22 of 32, 262 yards, two TDs) and he made sure to involve pretty much everyone when he was throwing the ball: The Raiders quarterback completed passes to a total of eight different receivers.

Oh, there was also Beast Mode, who went in his Raiders debut.

That is mowing down Titans’ All-Pro defensive lineman . There aren’t many running backs on the planet who can do that. Lynch averaged an impressive 4.2 yards per carry in the win (18 carries, 76 yards).

Titans coach Mike Mularkey put his team in an early hole when he called for an onside kick on the game’s opening kickoff. The Titans didn’t recover the ball and the Raiders ended up scoring a touchdown four plays later. When your secondary is one of your team’s biggest issues, putting them in a tough spot on the opening series of the season seems like a horrible idea. Mularkey’s decision didn’t necessarily cost Tennessee the game, but it put them in an early hole in a game where Tennessee never had the lead.

20-0 over

Four days before the Ravens played the Bengals, Baltimore safety perfectly , “Play great on defense, play unbelievable special teams, and play solid on offense — that’s going to be the secret for us to win,” Weddle said.

Play great on defense? Check. They forced five turnovers against the Bengals.

Play unbelievable special teams? Check. was 2 of 2 on field goals.

Play “solid” offense? Check. The Ravens’ offense didn’t do much against the Bengals, but they did get a 48-yard touchdown pass from to .

If the Ravens had played great on offense, this would be an ‘A’, but they were only “solid,” so it’s an ‘A-.’

The ‘D’ here stands for Dalton because almost single-handedly lost this game for the Bengals. Not only did Dalton throw four interceptions and look horrific while doing it, but he also lost a fumble after driving the Bengals inside of Baltimore’s 10-yard line. Everything that could go wrong for Dalton did go wrong. Maybe he should change his name to Andy Murphy. This was all basically every Bengals fan after watching Dalton play.

This game marked just the third time since 2002 that the Bengals have been shut out.

21-18 over

After skipping all of training camp, Steelers running back went out against Cleveland and played liked he skipped all of training camp, which wasn’t a good thing for the Steelers. Fortunately for the Steelers, they had , who seemed to eager to make up for the lost offensive production from Bell.

Brown caught 11 passes for 182 yards in the game, which was good news for Pittsburgh, because without Brown, the Steelers offense did nothing. went 13 of 25 for 63 yards when targeting receivers who weren’t Brown. The Steelers also got some surprising production from tight end , who caught six passes for 41 yards and two touchdowns. Before Sunday, James had only caught four touchdowns in his entire career. As for Brown, the 182 yards marked the sixth time he’s hit the 180-yard mark in his career.

Some day, the Browns will win an opener, but Sunday wasn’t that day. For the 13th year in row, the Browns lost their opener; however, they might actually be feeling hopeful after this one. Rookie quarterback looked somewhat capable (20 of 30, 222 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) and the Browns defense did a good job of shutting everyone down (except for Antonio Brown). The Browns haven’t had much to cheer about over the past 18 years, so a 21-18 loss to the Steelers might actually be a small step forward.

29-7 over

The Jaguars have already renamed themselves Sacksonville, which might sound silly, but we all should probably call them that after the game they put together in Houston.

The Jaguars racked up a total of 10 sacks in the game, which fell just two sacks short of the NFL’s single-game record for one team. Leading the way for Sacksonville was the unstoppable , who racked up four of the Jags’ 10 sacks. The Texans’ 203 total yards of offense marked the first time since 2011 that that Jags held an opponent under 205 yards.

Thanks to their defense, and an impressive performance from rookie running back (26 carries, 100 yards, 1 TD), it didn’t even matter that came through with one of his patented below-average performances. Kicker also struggled, and speaking of sacks, maybe it’s time for the Jaguars to sack him.

is probably going to get a healthy raise after what happened to the Texans’ offensive line. Brown, who is usually the starting left tackle for the Texans, didn’t play on Sunday because he’s holding out for more money. If the Texans are smart, they’ll give him quadruple whatever he wants. By the way, the line didn’t get much help from Houston’s two quarterbacks in this game. Both and threw a pick and lost a fumble in the game.

21-12 over

For a team that’s tanking, a nine-point loss is borderline respectable. That being said, it was a miracle that the Jets were able to stay in this game: They were outgained by nearly 200 yards (408 to 214) as threw two interceptions. They only rushed for 38 yards and they only converted 4 out of 14 of their third-down conversions.

It’s impossible to know if the Bills are actually any good since they only beat the Jets, but one thing’s for sure. They know who their bread and butter player is on offense: .

Not only did McCoy rush for 110 yards, but he also tacked on 49 receiving yards, a total that includes an impressive conversion second-and-20 that you can see below.

Even though he picked up his first career win, new Bills coach Sean McDermott has probably already forgotten about this game because he had an even bigger game next week. The Bills will be traveling to Carolina, which is where McDermott spent the past six seasons before being hired by Buffalo this year.

35-23 over

was thinking about retiring this offseason, and after watching him on Sunday, the Cardinals are probably wishing they had let him. Palmer threw an interception on Arizona’s opening drive of the game, and then, things only got worse from there. Palmer threw a total of three interceptions in the game, including a pick-six to Detroit’s Miles Killesbrew that iced the game for the Lions. Unfortunately for Arizona, the ugliest part of the loss might have not even been Palmer’s play. Cardinals star running back injured his wrist and will be .

The Lions’ decision to invest $135 million in looks like a smart one after Sunday’s game. Although Stafford got off to a slow start — he on his first pass of the season — he followed that up by throwing for 292 yards and four touchdowns.

Lions receiver Kenny Galladay is someone you might want to think about picking up on fantasy this week. The rookie caught four passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns, a total that includes the 45-yard touchdown catch you see below.

The Lions actually trailed heading into the fourth quarter, but that’s a pretty a normal thing with Detroit. Last season, the Lions rallied to win eight games in the fourth quarter, an NFL record, and they’re already on pace to break that record this year.

23-17 over

The last time we saw the Falcons, they were blowing a 28-3 lead in LI, and there’s a good chance that Falcons fans started to have some deja vu toward the end of this game. The Falcons almost blew a 20-10 fourth quarter lead, but they were able to avoid the upset thanks to a huge sack from that came on a fourth-and-goal play with the Bears only five yards from the end zone. If the Falcons are suffering from a Super Bowl hangover, tight end , who caught two passes for 128 yards and a touchdown.

If the Bears have proven one thing under John Fox, it’s that no one knows how to draft late-round running backs better than they do. Last year, was one of the top rookies in the NFL after being selected in the fifth round of the draft. This year, the Bears have a budding star in , who was selected in the fourth round of the 2017 draft.

The Falcons had no answer for the shifty Cohen, who totaled 113 yards from scrimmage (five carries for 66 yards on the ground and eight catches for 47 yards and a touchdown through the air). Cohen must have been watching the Chiefs-Patriots game and taking notes on Thursday when played, because Hunt was the only offensive rookie who was more impressive in Week 1.

30-17 over

The Eagles had zero running game in Washington, which means it was up to and the Philly defense to win the game, and that’s exactly what happened. Wentz threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns, and on one of those touchdowns, he may or may not have morphed into Brett Favre.

As for the Eagles defense, they held the Redskins under 270 yards of total offense, which is usually a good sign in Philly. The Eagles are 8-1 in their past nine games where they hold their opponent under 270 yards.

It’s a good thing Andy Dalton exists, because if he didn’t, would likely go down as the worst quarterback of Week 1. In just one game, Cousins almost justified the Redskins’ decision not to sign him to a long-term contract. The Redskins quarterback turned the ball over three times, which includes a lost fumble that the Eagles returned for a touchdown with under 90 seconds left in a 22-17 game (the defensive touchdown pushed the Eagles lead to 30-17).

Although the play was controversial — Cousins’ arm appeared to be going forward — do you really think he would’ve led the Redskins on a game-winning touchdown drive? He had no protection in the game (he was sacked four times) and had a hard time hitting receivers.

46-9 over

Firing Jeff Fisher might be the best thing that’s ever happened to the Rams. In their first game under new coach Sean McVay, the Rams looked like a revitalized team, starting with franchise quarterback . During his rookie year in 2016, Goff didn’t hit the 300-yard mark once and he also never won a single game in seven starts. That all changed against Indy.

Goff thrived in McVay’s new, more open offense. The second-year quarterback finished 21 of 29 for 306 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, the Rams had a huge game, despite the fact they were missing star defensive lineman .

As a matter of fact, when we say they had a huge game, we mean they actually outscored the Colts on their own. The Rams tallied two pick-sixes and also picked up a safety for a total of 16 points.

If doesn’t get back soon, it could be a long season for the Colts. Not only did starting quarterback look like he was playing football for the first time ever, but the Colts defense got torched by a Rams offense that’s never really been known for torching anyone.

23-3 over

(14 of 25, 171 yards) might have been a little rusty going into Week 1, but there definitely wasn’t any rust on the Panthers defense as they went up against a familiar foe in new 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan. Although the Panthers struggled to stop Shanahan’s offense while he was OC with the Falcons last season, they didn’t have any problem stopping his offense on Sunday.

The Panthers limited the 49ers to just 217 yards, forced two turnovers, and sacked four times in the win. The Panthers defense only let the 49ers in the red zone one time, and they also limited San Francisco to a 2-of-11 showing on third down conversions.

It doesn’t seem to matter who the coach is in San Francisco anymore, the 49ers look bad no matter what. After struggling under Jim Tomsula in 2015 and Chip Kelly in 2016, the Kyle Shanahan era isn’t looking much better. Believe it or not, the 49ers actually had the longest Week 1 winning streak in the NFL going into this game — they were 6-0 dating back to 2010 — but that streak’s now over, and Shanahan’s going to have to figure out how to win games with a team that doesn’t seem to have much talent.

17-9 over

If the Seahawks were handing out grades for this game, they would probably give the officiating an ‘F.’ The Seahawks were on the ugly end of sevesixth in the Premier League. It is the first summer transfer window for manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to stamp his authority on the squad. And United are promising big changes, with a lot of money available to spend.According to the Mirror, their numberral controversial calls, including a questionable ejection and an odd no-call on a possible pass interference of in the third quarter.

Of course, the Seahawks can’t completely blame the officiating. Seattle’s offense struggled for most of the game, their 225 yards of total offense was the team’s lowest since 2014. The Seahawks are now 0-3 at Lambeau Field under Carroll.

If you would’ve told someone before this game that the Packers’ defense would outplay the Seahawks’ defense, they probably would’ve thought you were crazy, but that’s exactly what happened. The Packers limited the Seahawks to just 12 first downs — compared to 26 for the Packers — and they absolutely shut down Seattle’s offense in third down situations (the Seahawks went 3 of 12 on third down conversions).

Of course, you can’t talk about the Packers without talking about . A big reason why the Packers were able to pull off the win is because Rodgers went full Rodgers on a third quarter touchdown pass. With less than a minute to go in the third quarter, Rodgers caught the Seahawks defense with 12 men on the field, got it a free play, and then used that play to throw a 32-yard TD pass to .

Rodgers threw for 311 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Cowboys 19-3 over Giants

The Giants offense has had some serious problems scoring points dating back to last season, and those problems continued against the Cowboys. Dating back to Week 13 of last year, the Giants haven’t cracked the 20ts he wants to play at left-back. The Spaniard was used at centre-back by Unai Emery last season.”My position has always been left-back, this is the position I enjoy most,” Monreal said.”Football is changing, obviously sometimes our centre-backs have-point mark a single time, which is a span of seven games including the playoffs and this year’s season opener. The loss of Odell Beckham for Sunday’s matchup definitely didn’t help, but even with him in the lineup, it’s hard to imagine the Giants looking much better. The bad news for America is that we’re going to be stuck watching the Giants offense again in Week 2 because they’re playing on Monday Night Football.

If the Cowboys defense was supposed to be the team’s weak link this season, then the rest of the NFL might be in trouble, because the unit absolutely shut down the Giants on Sunday Night Football. During the Cowboys’ win, Dallas limited the Giants to just 224 total yards, marking just the fifth time since 2012 that the Cowboys have held a team under 225 yards. The three points allowed marked just the second time since 2010 that the Cowboys gave up three points or fewer in a game.

As for the Cowboys’ offense, they weren’t bad, either. Ezekiel Elliott hit the 100-yard mark (104), and six receivers finished the game with 30 or more yards, including Jason Witten, who passed Michael Irvin as the Cowboys’ all-time leading receiver.

By the time the game was over, Witten was up to 11,947 career yards.

Anyway, the best part about this win for the Cowboys is that they were able to something they were unable to do in 2016: beat the Giants.

There are some probg to meet the Portugal international’s buyout clause, United still need to convince Dias about a move to England. The young centre-half also is a target for Juventus and is unsure about United due to it’s instability.A Bola says United are willing to lematic issues with the logo from an artistic standpoint (namely: it’s terrible). But there’s some issues when it comes to the Chargers trademark as well.

Naturally any team that files a patent or trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office is seeking to sell athletic gear. The L.A. Chargers are no different :

Clothing, footwear and headwear, namely, caps, hats, visors, headbands, ear muffs, wristbands, tops, T-shirts, tank tops, sleepwear, golf shirts, sweaters, sweatshirts, turtlenecks, jackets, neckties, bibs not of paper, jerseys, coats, robes, ponchos, sneakers, gloves, scarves, mittens, aprons, shorts, sweatpants, jeans, pants, socks, underwear, swimwear, rompers

The issue here is that L.A. Gear’s been in the game for a lot longer, selling the same stuff with a pretty similar looking name and logo.

Now, no one with a brain is going to confuse L.A. Gear with the L.A. Chargers. The Chargers are a football team that wastes the career of Philip Rivers and gags away late leads. L.A. Gear is a brand of footwear that lights up in the back. (Although maybe there’s a correlation here …)

However, in the interest of selling athletic apparel, a.k.a., gear, it would be understandable that L.A. Gear wouldn’t be thrilled about its already waning sales potentially taking a hit bels Manchester City can improve their defence.City are expected to be crowned the Premier League title winners today.“I think at the back there is still one or two positions with [Vincent] Kompany getting older now, he’s been an amazing player,” Reecause of the Chargers similar logo.

So they filed an opposition to the Chargers patent, ‘ “applied-for mark is confusingly similar to the marks of Opposer identified hereinabove.”

Additionally because the two will be offered to the “same class of consumers” L.A. Gear is claiming that the Chargers marks are “likely to cause confusion, or cause to mistake, or to deceive as to the source of the goods.”

The Chargers have since come out and said that the L.A. logos are simply for marketing and won’t be on any uniforms. So they’ll probably find something new to use instead.

It’s pretty obvious the franchise didn’t do its due diligence in terms of competition for the marks, however, which shouldn’t be a surprise given how this has gone down.
